10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Coronado National Memorial will honor the 2016 Centennial of the National Park Service by celebrating the cultural and natural diversity of southeast Arizona and northwest Mexico on Saturday, November 5. The Borderlands Festival / Festival Fronterizo will highlight music, dance, and theater from the borderlands region.
Archaeologists, biologists, park rangers, and conservation groups from across the region will be joining the party as well. We invite all to come and celebrate our region’s natural and cultural heritage – past, present, and future.
The event will kick off at 10:00 am, with the first performance scheduled for 10:30 am. Performers include La Calle Giant Puppet Acto from Tucson, folklórico group Ballet Angeles de Agua Prieta, Mariachi Sol Azteca, period Spanish colonial ensemble Nuevo Mundo from Sierra Vista, and more! Kids and families can join park rangers for games in the picnic area. Learn more about the plants and animals in southern Arizona and Sonora from Arizona conservation groups and from Mexican National Parks representatives (CONANP). Archaeologists and museums will showcase artifacts and cultural items from the borderlands.
Visitors should be prepared to park at Valley View School near the junction of Highway 92 and Coronado Memorial Rd. Festival-goers will be shuttled from the parking area to the festival at the picnic grounds. Due to the shortage of parking inside Coronado National Memorial boundaries we ask visitors without disabilities to park at the designated parking area. Be sure to bring sunscreen, hat, water bottle, and consider bringing a camp chair or beach chair to enjoy the performances. Food will be available for purchase at the festival courtesy of local food trucks (cash only).
Coronado National Memorial is located in the Huachuca Mountains and shares its southern boundary with Sonora, Mexico.
