Youth
Programs
In 1984,
SSVEC members approved a change in the cooperative’s
bylaws to establish the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative
Foundation. The Foundation is a tax-exempt, charitable corporation.
The
purpose of the SSVEC Foundation is to support SSVEC’s
ongoing youth programs: the Washington Youth Tour, SSVEC Foundation
Scholarship Program, and the Youth Engineering and Science
Fair.

Washington
Youth Tour:
Supporting youth programs is one way we are building for
a bright future. As well as providing in-school educational
presentations about energy and electricity, we feature
the Washington Youth Tour and Youth Engineering and Science
(YES) Fair. Each summer, SSVEC sends six high school juniors
to Washington D.C., for one week. Students get a tour
of our nation's capital, and visit with Arizona's representatives
and senators. |

YES
Fair:
The Youth Engineering Science Fair (YES Fair) is one of
four Science Fairs in Arizona that are affiliated with
the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
The Grand prize Winners in the 9-12 division of the YES
Fair win an all expense paid trip to the International
Science Fair. The fair is open to students in grades 5-6,
7-8, and 9-12 who compete for awards and cash prizes. |
